Filip Láb is an Associate Professor at the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism, Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in Prague. He specializes in visual culture, visual communication, photojournalism, the theory and practice of traditional and digital photography, the transition from analogue to digital photography, and new uses for visual materials in media. He is Chairman of the Scientific Board of Media Studies at the Institute of Communication Studies. He is a co-author with Alice Tejkalová of a pilot study for the research project ‘The Relationship Between Journalism Studies and Media Professionals in the Czech Republic’. Since 2011, he has been researching Czech journalists as part of an international research project, the Worlds of Journalism Study (with Alice Tejkalová). He has recently been researching Czech photojournalism, studying changes in the structure and content of photojournalistic practice in the era of social media (with Sandra Štefaniková). Also since 2011, he has been the leader of the Czech branch of an international research project, the European Journalism Observatory.
